Introduction

C5 hydrocarbon resin is a low-molecular-weight thermoplastic resin derived from the polymerization of C5 fraction, mainly consisting of aliphatic dienes and olefins from petroleum cracking. It appears as light-yellow to amber granules and is widely used as a tackifier due to its excellent compatibility with natural and synthetic rubbers, EVA, SIS, and other polymers. C5 resins improve adhesion, cohesion, and processability, making them important in hot-melt adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives, rubber compounding, road marking paints, coatings, and inks. They offer fast drying, good thermal stability, and enhanced resistance to water, UV, and chemicals, supporting durable and versatile industrial applications.

Origin & Composition

C5 hydrocarbon resin is derived from the C5 fraction of petroleum cracking (mainly piperylene, isoprene, and other aliphatic olefins/dienes). It is a low-molecular-weight, non-polar thermoplastic resin.

Appearance

Typically light yellow to amber granules. Some grades (e.g., hydrogenated C5 resin) can be water-white.
